My specs were:

i5-3750k @ 3.4
Asrock z77 Pro4
Radeon 7800
550W OCZ ZT
64 GB crucial SSD
1 tb WDB
8GB ram

Everything seemed to work relatively well. I purchased a 144hz Benq monitor and realized I was struggling to maintain 144 fps in cs go/league so I kept it at 100 hz and it worked ok. Gaming the other day and my computer freezes and will only restart in safe mode. The colors are all messed up so I think its my vid card. Unplug it from PSU and plug my monitor directly into MOBO and everything works fine. Decided to get a new card and a bigger SSD to upgrade my comp so i purchased 480 gb SSD and asus geforce gtx 970. Reinstall windows on new ssd and update everything for my video card and somehow I am getting comparable/worse fps playing the same games. While playing cs go with everything set to low my fps ranges from 80-250 but usually hovers 140-180. If i try to play league with v sync at 144 fps I get drops sometimes as much as below 90 every game, which is worse performance than what I was getting with my Radeon 7800.

What is going on here? Is it possible another component has had it or is this build just not good enough to warrant better results? Many other people with similar vid card and processor claim to get substantially better performance, but this seems to not be the case for me.

After spending so much on a vid card and really not seeing any improvements I cant help but think I should just take it back.

I apologize for taking so long to reply to this but I had finals and realized I just didn't have time to attempt to fix this quite then. I don't know what you mean by "download gpu", I have a GPU monitoring software that came with my GPU so I am hoping that's what you are referring to. I went ahead and used DDU and removed and re-installed my latest drivers as well before re-testing and it changed nothing. This is the results while playing CS:GO:

This changes while playing League of Legends with my GPU sitting at around 20-30 percent use. Far Cry 4 on the other hand is around 85-100. I can post these if need be. Once again sorry for taking so long and thanks for your help and time.
