Can I removed 8GB RAM stick from one brand and replace with two new 8GB sticks from a different brand?

I am currently running my computer with a 8GB stick from one brand, can I take it out to put two new 8GB sticks from a different brand? Or should I just buy one 8GB stick and add it in with the other branded stick?

The best thing to do is indeed get two modules as a set and put that in rather than add one more.With adding ram can you get into trouble since not picked to run together.More info here,
