Adding In More Case Fans But Which Way To Connect Them To? (REPOST)

Hey guys, later on I plan to upgrade my case with some extra case fans but the problem is I don't have enough chassis fan headers on my motherboard to add in more fans, I have a Corsair 230T Graphite Series case that has two 120/140mm fan slots on the top & a 120mm bottom fan slot on my case. But at the same time I want to control the fan speeds, without any software.
I know this question has probably been asked before but I need to figure out a way to control all of my fans, including the ones that came with my case, two 120mm intake fans & a rear 120mm exhaust fan. I plan to use some PWM fans as well. I'm going to get an AMD R9 390 GPU also, so I have to worry about the temps.

I'll probably use a fan controller & hook up all of my fans to there instead so I can control the speeds through there & avoid using the headers on my motherboard. 2 questions, if I get a fan controller & plugged in a 3 pin fan into the controller, can I control the speeds through the controller? Or does it have to be a 4 pin (PWM) fan to be capable of doing that? My second question is what fan controllers & case fans you recommend?

If I controlled a 3-pin fan connected to a fan controller, would it be controlled by voltage through the fan controller? 4-pin fans have PWM on them so they can be controlled more easily.
