Help picking CPU for budget build

Which processor should I use for budget build? I'm in computer science, so on top of general use I'll be running IDEs, development tools/simulators, and I also use Adobe CS3 often. I'm pretty set on cheap, but the $20 bump to the 4370 would be ok if it makes a difference at all. Is there enough performance increase (for my uses) to go ahead and spend another $60 on the 4690K?

The options are:
I3-4160 ($125)
I3-4370 ($146)
I5-4690K ($209)

My current parts list was created from hand-me-downs and sales (only spent $110 so far!):

Mobo - GA-H81M-HD2
RAM - Corsair Vengeance LP 2x4GB 1600Mhz
SDD - Samsung Evo 850
GFX - Quadro 4000
PSU - Corsair CX750M

Thanks for any help!

I was thinking of what SR-71 suggested the i5 4460.. it is a good chip.. it will serve you well for at least 3-4 years with what you will be doing.

The i5's are quad core chips and the i3 are dual core... the quads will always be faster in multi-threaded applications.
It comes down to what you are willing to spend right now.

are we stuck on those 3 processors only? because there are other cheaper and better options availble

Also to use the 4690k to its full potentital you will need to overclock it and for that u
will have to change your motherboard to a z97 and get a cpu cooler.

Not at all! What do you have in mind? I'm up for anything, but those three did pretty well on the CPUBoss comparisons. And yeah, I know the 4690k requires the z97 and a cpu cooler for overclocking, but that could always be a future project for when I have more money. The perk of the 4690k is that I have room for upgrading for overclocking later :)

I always have a project going in PS. Dreamweaver in a close second (when DW is going, PS is usually also running). Fireworks and Flash occasionally, with everything else in the suite only being used as needed.

Good find. I also had that one book marked, but sure didn't check for a lower price (I had $180). The I3-4370 apparently has better single core ratings and in reviews for that I3 people are claiming it seems faster than the cheaper I5's. Does that hold true? CPU Boss recommends that I3 over the 4460, but I do wonder if the I3's two physical cores stand up to the I5 for my purposes.

Thanks to everyone for the input, by the way!
