Hi, Im the process of getting an i5 and DDR3 MB to cannibalize my existing system but I just found out those skylake mb accept DDR3L. I'm currently using Crucial 1866 and the specs are 1.5v. Can I use that memory with a new skylake cpu and mb? Thanks in advance.

That will depend on whether the exact motherboard you get fully supports DDR3L. DDR3L is a dual voltage specification that supports both 1.5V and 1.35V. A skylake mobo would probably default to 1.35V but if it has overclocking options you might be able to get the voltage up to 1.5V. If that's not an option then the mobo won't support 1.5V and your Crucial RAM won't work.

According to ASUS, it's fine. Intel seems to say otherwise, but honestly I can't say for sure 100%. I personally would not. Also, not sure of the budget involved, but by skipping DDR4 and sticking w/ DD3, you're losing some of the speed benefits of Skylake platform. Also, you can't directly compare timings of DDR3 and DDR4.
