I'm piecing together a new computer, what does memory standard mean?

Solution
Yes you will need ddr4 2133mhz to fully utilize the board, as for if it's backwards compatible I am not sure, I would guess not because of ddr4 lower running voltages.

Edit: yes you would have to buy new ram, your ddr3 will not fit in the slots because ddr3 and ddr4 are different DIMM slots. Sorry, to further clarify ddr4 mobo are not backwarDS compatible with ddr3 ram.
