Hello there! I've been trying for the past year or so to figure out what desktop build to make (and building up the courage to do so). I am unfortunately not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to figuring out which parts work best with one another, and I was hoping that I could get some help regarding replacing the graphics card in the build schematics that I have put together based on the advice of friends and helpful folks on this forum and others. I will be using this desktop for gaming and professionally as a graphic designer. I'm also not planning on overclocking.

My questions/issues are:
1. I cannot seem to find the video card (MSI Radeon R9 280 3GB TWIN FROZR) for sale online anywhere where it is new and not used. Since it appears to no longer be for sale I was thinking of using the GeForce GTX 970 instead. However, I'm not sure how that might affect the power supply or any other components of the computer.
2. What do you think of the overall build? I welcome any feedback. I do know though that I want to stick with the i5 CPU.

Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate how often people offer help on this forum!

The build is as follows:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHx Quad-Core;
    CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO;
    Motherboard: MSI Z97-GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150;
    Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600;
    Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5” 7200RPM;
    Video Card: MSI Radeon R9 280 3GB TWIN FROZR;
    Case: NZXT H440 ATX Mid Tower;
    Power Supply: EVGA 650W ATX12V / EPS12V;
    Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10;
    Monitor: Asus VS248H-P 24.0”;
    Solid State Drive: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD;
    External CD Drive: Samsung Electronics Ultra-Slim Optical Drives SE-208GB/RSBD;

Thank you! I'm glad to hear that I don't need to adjust anything for the GTX 970, that makes my life a lot easier!
