Hello, I'm moving in a couple of weeks, so was wondering if it would be possible to use USB tethering from my smartphone(galaxy s5) to a router as main internet source?

Got a laptop a printer and a ps4 that needs internet connection so figured if it is possible I could save some living expenses on skipping a new broadband connection.

I wish I lived in sweden. That plan is very rare. Almost all the original unlimited plans were changed because certain groups of users ran torrent downloads 24x7, and this happened before 3g stuff was big. Make sure you read the fine print, many plans allow some amount of tethered traffic and then have huge charges per gig over some limit.

This says your phone is supported. You would likely need to be sure you have the correct firmware.

I normally use dongles to connect to the router so I have not tried a phone but asus with the latest software tend to just see the device and let you use it as a wan.
If you save money using a mobile broadband connection then you must not use internet much. You will not find a unlimited plan when you are running tethered. Maybe a old grandfathered verizon plan but almost all other have very limited bandwidth for tethered use and they charge a fortune for exceeding the cap.

In any case what you need is a router that supports it. You have to read the list of supported devices. ASUS and TPLINK have a number of supported devices but it changes all the time. Some do not work on all carriers even on the same type of phone. Third party firmware like dd-wrt tends to have the largest list. At least you have a chance because you have a android device not iphone products support this.

What do you mean with internet plans that doesn't support tethering? Got an unlimited 4G plan from a swedish operator and been using usb tethering directly to my laptop for over 5 months. Or do operators limit it from router sharing only?

Been looking at some Asus routers, but they say that they support 3G. Does they support 4G too or do I need a specific Asus router who supports 4G and not 3G?
