I have a 1TB WD My Passport External Drive that has just started to be detected as a "RAW" Partition. The drive itself was just a backup drive so the data itself is not important.
I have attempted to re-format it using Disk Management, Command Prompt, Diskpart, HPUSBDISK and WD_Quick_Formatter (Win_1_2_0_10) and all give an error.
All of the above was tried on a Windows 8.1 system, I also tried a wuick format on a Windows 7 unit and the result was the same.
I have also tried using a different cable.
At this stage I'm beginning to think that either the Hard Drive itself is corrupted or there is damage with this internal connector, but before I open it up (probably risking further damage) I thought I'd see if any one here had any further thoughts / suggestions.

Unfortunately, if the HDD is detected in RAW format, it means that your file system got corrupted. I'd strongly advise you to test the external using WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics for Windows from the software here:
