Graphics problems, not the gpu, please help?

Hi guys, I was just playing a game if rocket league and the game crashed? After this I noticed that a few things such as pictures and my background and icons would have red marks through them, like the computer is failing to display red correctly? This is quote random, like sometimes it will happen on my log in picture or my screen background,


I've also noticed when browsing the Internet I get the 'you aren't secure' thing on Google Chrome and then wont let me access the site (even a Google search) this is quite random as well. I also get crashes of applications on a regular basis, I also can't log onto steam so there's a minor network error somewhere (everything perfect before)


I know it's not my graphics card because I took it out and ran from the inboard graphics and it's the exact same, I also did a memtest from the mobo and took out the 4 ram modules 1 by 1 and checked in.different ports etc, also have 2 hdds (other one has an os on it but hardly use it, problem still persists)

My rig is
Asus pv(something) motherboard
Intel i7 3770k
16gb ram (can't remember brand, Kingston? At 1333mhz ddr3 I think)
Gtx 960 mail 2gb
Corsair 650w psu
Win 8.1
2tb hdd
640gb backup hdd


Any help would be fantastic as this has baffled me for the last 6 hours

Open CMD as admin and type: sfc/scannow

Also, it's rare for viruses to have that effect, but I would rule that out by running a few scans.
I would recommend MBAM, SAS and Spybot. Yes all of them. Usually good to run more than one. It's not as time consuming as it sounds.

Yeah and like Thineswar said, it could be a lack of efficient power...
Better give us the full specs of your system.

And yeah, as pretty much always, a clean install is bound to fix anything, but hardware problems...

Hey guys, it's a tx650, I've had a nvidia gtx570 In with this setup before which takes more power than the 960 so hopefully it's not that

Will a clean copy do anything though if it's still got the problems on both my hdd? Or will a virus be able to get into both hard drives?


I will do a scan later as I'm off to uni, thanks for your responses :)

Well if you do a clean install you're supposed to format the drive so, no there won't be anything there that isn't supposed to, after the install.
You should probably format the other drive as well, but if you don't want to, you should at least make sure that one is free of viruses before letting it anywhere near the clean install.

Oh and one thing you should definitely try before resulting to a clean install, is re-installing the GPU drivers.

Ran several anti malware and virus scans. Nothing found :/ took the other hard drive out just incase as well. One thing I noticed, when I play a song through windows media player, it plays the track but has a little 'tweeting' noise over the track, however when played a song through YouTube it plays fine.

I also noticed that the system is really unreliable, sometimes on startup all my programs will start (Skype etc) then sometimes it doesn't? Also trying to upgrade my graphics drivers ( a new nvidia update today) it let's me download it but has problems installing it, even when custom and fresh install :S

No, I didn't do a clean install as I don't think it's the OS as I had the exact same problem on a different hard drive running 8.1 as well,

Here's what my desktop background looks like, it's the system because it shows up in pictures

i don't understand what you mean by "it's the system because it shows up in pictures". Could you please explain further?
Also, I think this is a malware or virus problem because these kinds of weird phenomena are usually caused by them. A clean of install of windows would easily remove all of the viruses-if any were present.
You may seen this on a different pc because it was infected by the virus as well; either by you transmitting files from this pc to that, or downloading the same kind of program on both pcs.
Please just try to do a clean install of windows-just remember to backup your files first though.

Hi, I have just done a clean install and tested and the screen still displays the artiifacts and WMP will often crash

for the artifacts, since you said that it's not the gpu, maybe it's the motherboard? Did you try using a different one?
Also, you never told me your psu model.

It does it with all programs not just wmp (inc chrome) :/

the psu is a tx650 corsair, It's making a bit of noise lately :/

The motherboard isn't even 6 months old and seems to power everything correct, I get the artifacts running from onboard so maybe it''s the cpu? I also can't run it on stock voltages either and have to up it to 1.2v for it to even let me log on without bsod

yes, the motherboard is pretty new so I've ruled that out for now, I've bought an i5 3rd gen because I think the current cpu is damaged as underneath the processor when taking it out there was a slightly 'darker' area on the underside, this with the fact that I can't run it on stock settings makes me think it's this.

on my previous motherboard as well, I had the same problem hence buying the newer motherboard 6 months ago thinking it was the motherboard

so, this problem is with the new cpu and motherboard? Anyway, I still think you'd need to test your system with another motherboard.
Also, I'm not sure if you'd already done this, but try to do a clean install install of your gpu drivers. Follow the guide here:
