Hello all,

It's been a while since I've touched the hardware inside my computer, so I'm a little rusty with the steps.

My current storage setup:
1) 128gb Kingston SSD (with only my Windows OS on it)
2) 1 TB Seagate HDD drive for storage.

I recently got and want to add a Samsung 850 Evo 500gb as an extra storage drive (similar to my 1TB Seagate HDD), since my current SSD with the OS is booting fine. I'm just running out of space on the 1TB HDD, so I grabbed this SSD to move some apps I use more frequently on to that and free up some space on the 1TB HDD for actual storage purposes.

Current problem:
Since I'm not cloning my OS, I just popped the Samsung SSD into the computer, plugged in the proper SATA 6gb/s (SATA3) cable + power cable. I downloaded the Samsung Magician app from the CD that came with the drive. The Samsung Magician app is able to detect all three of my drives perfectly fine, and specifically for the Samsung SSD it says: "AHCI mode is on, SATA cable is fine and optimal, and currently optimized for reliability."

However, I can't see this as a drive in My Computer - I only see me other two drives. Did I miss a step somewhere?

Thanks!

Open up Disk Management
Right click on that new drive
What options does it give?

Probably "New Simple Volume"
Do that.

Hmm so when I go into Disk Management, there's a message saying "Disk 0 needs to be initialized before logical disk manager can index it," and lists two options: MBR (master boot record) / GPT (GUID partition table).

Which option do I use? I think my other two are MBR, but I'm not 100% sure what the differences are between the two.
