Hello I have two components on my msi x99s gaming 7 series motherboard. First of all I have the Gskill DDR4 SDRAM which supports clock rate of 2400Mhz. Also I have an intel 5820K cpu with 4.0 MAX clock. I can overclock above but I do not wish to because I may destroy the life span of the processor. Anyways, I would like to know is it okay to overclock both the CPU and the memory using XMP at the same time you have over clock on cpu? Someone told me that its not good because you are drawing power from the MB bus and it drains too much voltage. Is that true that XMP on with overclocked cpu could cause major damage to your system?

Another question is, which one is better memory overclock or CPU overclock? I think memory is because memory can store temp files and also have a clock rate but a cpu can only process instructions at a given speed per second. Memory XMP or overclock is my choice. However I need some opinions on this topic because I have read that turning on the XMP setting with the overclock of 4.0 Ghz can damage your system so I would like more knowledge on it and also the best option out of XMP on memory or CPU overclock.

Thanks very much.. Your help is appreciated!

Because memory clock is how fast data get in and out of the memory while CPU process that data. CPU helps more because its processing more faster than default and memory only carry this data. There is not performance increase if memory is faster than CPU but eliminates stuttering in games because its delaying the CPU to processe the upcoming data. If CPU is slow, why i should store thinks faster in memory where in the same time CPU can't even process the data so fast as the memory. Thats why CPU have the advantage because he makes things happen. Memory is only the helper, CPU is the craftsman.
