About two months a go I've replaced my old 24" LG monitor with another because of the back light failure. In the bottom right corner the picture looked a lot more dark. Today my brother decided to plug it to his laptop and now it works perfectly. Any ideas what might have happened during the last two months that made it work? It was just sitting on a desk unused and unplugged.

Let him use it for a while and see if the issue comes back. I doubt the "self-fix" will be permanent.
Off the top of my head, I cannot imagine an issue that caused a single CCFL lamp to go dim at one end magically fixing itself if your LCD's CCFL driver is the same general design as those I have seen in other LG LCDs.
