constant blue screen/black screen

hello

it seems that when playing most games or doing really anything on my computer i am either eventually greeted with all programs to stop responding (including desktop+taskbar), a blue screen or simply the sound that blue screens make yet it's just black (for the last two i also have to restart my computer most of the time to get it to output to any devices e.g monitor/keyboard)

CPU:AMD FX 8320
RAM:8gb
GPU: AMD r9 980
OS: windows 7 home professional

Try running on one stick of RAM at a time, or try different RAM. Did this start recently? Did anything get installed/changed/added/removed before the issue started? Did you try a clean Windows setup?

i'm currently using a stick of RAM and i don't rlly want to use a clean windows setup as i have alot of files i'd rather not lose/redownload (if there's any other solutions i could try before trying a clean setup please tell me), and the issue has been consistent for a while now to what i previously thought was a wiring issue yet i can't remember what was downloaded around when it happened

You can use a spare drive to install a clean Windows setup to test things. Remove your hard drive, install the other, test with that. If issue continues you can go to other steps.

If a clean Windows setup did not help, that points to hardware. Try a different RAM stick, check for a BIOS update, make sure system is not getting too hot with HWmonitor, make sure fans are all OK, maybe reseat connections to motherboard, RAM and drives. Maybe power supply is going bad, or video card. CPU or motherboard are in there also but that's a bit more rare.
