Okay so i'm looking to upgrade my CPU due to the fact that im currently running an i7 2600 at 3.4ghz, but it's second gen and i'm looking to use ram that is 2400mhz (32 gigs, 8gb Vengeance DDR3 x4), however i would like to know what CPUS can handle this memory mhz amount. If you can post the cheapest possible, and what you would recommend if possible thank you!!
My current build specs are
Gigabyte GTX 960 4gb G1 Gaming
I7 2600 @ 3.4ghz
looking to upgrade to 32 gigabyte Corsair Vengeance DDR3
2tb SDD
Optical drive
and a nice 600w Powersupply

Solution
What is your current motherboard?
What ram do you now have?
What is your budget?

Are you looking to simply continue to use the i7-2600 and increase the ram?

Or, are you looking to buy a stronger cpu that can handle 32gb?

Any processor that is an upgrade to your i7-2600 will be able to handle 32gb of 2400 speed ram.

But, you need to understand that ram speed is mostly marketing; Intel processors have an excellent integrated ram controller. Real app performance is hardly impacted at all by faster ram. Think 2-3%.

yes but at the end of the day the memory controller in the CPU that determines the speed it runs at?

And... vengeance is a brand that you pay a premium for.
Ram does not need fancy heat spreaders which are mostly marketing.

i was actually given the 32gb DDR3 Corsair Vengence 2400mhz for free.... he got 32 gb for $100 on black friday and gave it to me as a gift! Im looking at about the $300-400 dollar range for the processor and mobo, I do heavy video and engineering program rendering for work and it is usually very slow so he said the upgrade should help me out.

The motherboard i have now came with the computer and is a intel dh67bl

2400 ram is actually slower ram that can be overclocked to 2400 speeds .

Your 32gb kit of 2400 speed should have a default speed of 1333.
Try it, I think it should work.

For an upgrade, look for a i7-4790K.
With skylake i7-6700K launched, there are some discounts available.
I saw one at microcenter for $250 for a walk in.

Most any Z97 motherboard will do the job. $100 will buy you one.

Looking online they are hovering at about 350-400, would an i5 do the job the same? if so what do you recommend? The cheapest possible would be preferred, however I am fortunate to have some wiggle room due to some unexpected income coming in.

A I7 has hyperthreads. That gives you 4 more dispatchable threads that are perhaps equal to 1/4-1/3 of a core.
Past that, a i5-4690 has a clock rate of 3.5 that can not be changed.
The i7 has a clock rate of 4.0 which can go up to 4.4 or more with overclocking.
Put another way, the i5-4690 has a passmark total rating of 7625 with a single thread rating of 2230.
The i7-4690K has a total rating of 11228 and a single thread rating of 2530.

For compute tasks, it is hard to do much better at a reasonable price.
