I am currently thinking of getting the this PC over here

http://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c04835128

but I would like to upgrade it at some point to a gtx 970. I know there is a pci-e x16 so that bit is solved but I have no clue if it would actually fit the chassis itself. I also know that I would have to upgrade the psu but that "hopefully" will be problem free.

There's one big thing that I can't tell for certain and there don't seem to be enough pictures of it to confirm this, but it looks like a BTX tower. While looking at the front of the case, there seem to be some vents on the right side of the case, meaning the motherboard is going to be against the right side. BUT the picture from your support page makes it look like a normal ATX, so maybe it's just upside down? It's hard to say what the inside would look like and where the drive cage would be located but that optical drive is almost dead center. The GPU they have listed is a short card which is why it would fit, so you would end up looking for something like...

The PSU is a uATX (miniatx) so you would need to make sure you can find another miniATX psu to fit, or that the case has room and mounts ready for a standard ATX.
