I heard somewhere that some graphics cards will not work on amd motherboards
Using an GIGABYTE F2A68HM-HD2 And was going to upgrade my card from amd r7 240 to gtx 960

Don't believe what you heard. Pretty much any modern GPU will work on any modern motherboard. In a worst case scenario, you might need to update the bios for full compatibility, but that would be rare.

The GTX 960 should be a nice upgrade for you.
