I have an ASUS Z97A mobo and an i5-4690K. I want to change my RAM from 8GB to 16GB to help with video processing. Reading through the posts here the opinion on whether I could run 2x8GB 2400 sticks running appears to be 50/50 ! I have the MOBO set to optimum performance in the ASUS software suite. Can anyone confirm 2400 memory will be OK ?

It will probably run fine. The issue is that if you don't get all your RAM sticks in a kit, then they are not guaranteed to run at the highest speeds. Manufacturers usually tune the RAM sold in kits to make sure it will work nicely together.

In the worst case, you'll have to run two sticks at a slightly lower speed, which generally has a negligible effect on performance. You'll still be netting a gain, so it's not a particularly risky upgrade.

Many thanks to both for such a quick answer. I intend using the 2x4GB sticks in an old case to make up a second PC (to run win 7 when I "up" to win 10) and the 2x8GB sticks in the Z97A. Will I get away with not buying RAM on the "ASUS LIST" as UK Amazon doesn't sell any in what "I am allowed to spend" on my PC having just "upped it" to its present spec!

Corsair is a pretty well-known RAM vendor. It probably won't pose any significant issues. Worst case is that you cannot run the RAM at 2400MHz; you might have to settle for 1600MHz or a more standard speed. That won't have a significant impact on performance in most cases, though.
