Rebuilt computer with new motherboard, everything else the same. Put in an SATA drive that was used as a back up but files will not open. All files have correct names, but when opened, system says can't read, data in a "raw" format. How do I open these to recover the data? Backups were just copy to location (not a backup program). Some files were directly put on there.

Hey Duuude, welcome to the community! :)

Usually that sort of thing shouldn't happen to a secondary storage drive. Would you please be so kind as to post a screenshot of what you see in Disk Management about the HDD and its partitions (you can use imgur.com to upload the image)?

Data recovery software is also an option if the other suggestions don't prove useful: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html and http://pcsupport.about.com/od/filerecovery/tp/free-file-recovery-programs.htm.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.
