Just yesterday I believe I suddenly got an error on my computer saying something like "USB device not recognized". After that my Seagate 2TB Expansion drive stopped showing up entirely on my system when plugged in. I had bought it in October of this year and it had been working since then.

Plugging it into other system does not do anything either. It does not show up in "Disk Management" as well, or in BIOS, or through disk part in cmd. The drive, when plugged in, does have its blue LED turn on and also it sounds as though it is working internally.

My main computer I am using right now has these specs, but I have tried to get this external hard drive to show up on multiple computers, none of which do anything when I plug the external drive into them.

The fact that there internals are definitely doing something audible and the LED turning on doesn't mean anything? Jeez, how disappointing.

I'd be willing to bet $50 that if you opened up the plastic case the internal HDD is a model ST2000DM001 (possibly the last digit is off). They are a model with an extremely high premature failure rate. The 3Tb ones are even worse.

If it's not clicking and spinning down, then it's possibly a firmware glitch or a problem with the media cache. However there's little you can do without access to professional tools like PC-3000. If the data is valuable, I'd recommend you seek professional data recovery. Just be sure wherever you send it has people experienced with the model. They are a real problem and a lot of guys haven't been able to pull off many recoveries on them yet.

Well I opened it before I made this post just in case the problem was due to the outer shell casing and it is actually a model ST2000LM003. I think opening it made it void of warranty as well, so this whole situation just sucks, thanks for your information though.

Ah, I stand corrected. Good thing you didn't take my bet.;) That model is somewhat better, but still has a pretty high failure rate.

You can always try taking it out and connect the drive via SATA just to see if it's a problem with the USB bridge, but I doubt that's the issue.
