I'm a totally frustrated new My Book owner.

Just purchased 5 TB version of My Book from BestBuy yesterday (Model #WDBFJK0050HBK-NESN)

Computer using Windows 7 Ultimate OS

Followed simple instructions for My Book and started backup.
After letting run overnight, I got up this morning and it was done... but there was an error message that the backup failed.

I looked at the files, and to my surprise, they are all WinRAR archive files... is this correct?

The drive started with 4.54 TB and now has 3.95 TB free. I was saving approximately 900 GB worth of data, don't know if this would be "condensed" using WinRAR?

I am also surprised to not find my 5 TB My Book listed on the WD website, and when I type in the model #, nothing comes up.

This a very frustrating and bad experience... thinking of just returning this and getting a different product.

Help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

:)

Hey there, rich121!

I'm sorry to hear that you are so frustrated with your WD My Book external drive. :( Are you using the WD Backup or the WD SmartWare software for your data? All our current My Book models come with 2, 3, 4 or 6 TB capacity, that's why you are unable to see the 5 TB version, which (to my knowledge) was a special release for that particular reseller. I'd suggest you to check the warranty of your external HDD on our website if you have any concerns about it not being genuine. Warranty Check: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=qW46fI
You can also find all the available WD Software for the WD My Book product here: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=comYsh

I'd recommend you to use the WD SmartWare...

Hope it helps. Keep us posted if you have more questions! :)
