Hi,

Thinking about upgrading my graphics card and have a budget of £150. The games I play at present are FM 2009, WoW & Skyrim but considering getting FM 2016, Elite & Eve Online but can't see me getting any other new titles in the next couple of years.

My current setup is:

OS = Windows 7 (64 bit)
CPU = AMD Phenom II X4 955
MOBO = M4A87TD EVO
RAM = 8GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical, DDR3 1600MHz
GPU = ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series
Monitor = Samsung Syncmaster P2370 HD (1920 x 1080)

Was thinking of getting Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti Graphics Card (2GB, GDDR5, PCI-Express 3.0) [£94.98]. Want a card that will play all the above games at 1920 x 1080 on decent settings (not necessarily ultra). I'm not thinking of overclocking my CPU at the moment and don't want a card that is going to cause a bottleneck at my CPU. Is this card a good choice or could you suggest a better one.

Thanks

the 950 is better than the 750ti 4GB mostly because from what I can find the 750Ti doesnt have enough bandwidth to utilize the 4GB of VRAM. It's slapped on there but doesn't get used.

Thanks to both of you for helping me make a choice, looks like the GTX 950 is the winner.

The only questions I have left is does the manufacturer (Palit, EVGA, Gigabyte, etc) make a difference or do you just go for the cheapest? Also do you think the price will come down before February next year or should I just get it now?

If the price variation isn't too bad I would suggest EVGA. They have the easiest hassle free return/support service. I've had experiences with just about all the GPU manufacturer's over the years and they've always impressed me the most. As far as the price dropping, I'm not too familiar with how the UK will price their component's but I wouldn't count on a significant price drop. Maybe 10 pounds at best. Just get it now :)

Personally, I would highly recommend upgrading your CPU to something like a FX-8320. No card above even $60 will bottleneck your CPU but your CPU won't be able to keep up with what your card can do. Always remember, your CPU may not do much on graphics (excluding shadows which heavily rely on) the image itself comes from the game via CPU. It's like having a truck holding a number of items but can't drive with said items. You can find them for very good deals. I would recommend ording online from MicroCenter because I bought a $200 cpu for only $120, which left me with a LOT of room for a good heatsink for those hot summer days.

I am currently looking at 2nd hand CPUs and motherboards. I should get about £80 for my current CPU and mobo if I sell on Ebay, which means if I shop around I should be able to upgrade to an i5 and new mobo for a small outlay if I get them second hand.
