I'd like to overclock my a10 5800k to somewhere around 4.5ghz. My cooler is decent, not amazing so I'm not sure it is possible but my problem is I can't find a way to disable AMD turbo core technology which I've heard is necessary to overclock AMD cpus.

Cpu cooler - Cooler Master Hyper T4
Motherboard - Asrock Extreme 4+

Solution
Check the OC Tweaker Screen in the BIOS and it should have a AMD Turbo Core option, and right below it is the APM option that should be disabled as well for Overclocking. (You might have to select Manual Overclocking to have this option but not sure as I do not own this board)

Found both settings now and turned them off. Do you think I can reach ~~ 4.5ghz safely? Side note, my ram always seems to be downclocking, a lot. It should run at up to 2133mhz but runs at either 1600mhz or more recently 1333mhz. I want at least the 1866 out of it...

Yes you can probably reach 4.5Ghz with your cpu. Most motherboards run RAM at slower speeds for greater RAM compatibility so you have to manually set them to what speed you want. I would try the higher RAM speeds before OCing the cpu to make sure it is stable. You can find lots of overclocking guides for you cpu if you google it.. Good luck, as to mark this thread as solved please use the "Pick as the Solution" button on whatever post answered your question best.

Yea I set it up to 1866 but I suspect it'll downclock again as I've changed it before and it's changed back even though it' set to only adjust manually.

Cpu voltage was already set to 1.41250 so I shouldn't need to change this to bump the speed up to 4.5 I think. Multiplier was already at 43. Should have plenty of power yes? Do you think I can go higher than 4.5?

1.4125V should allow you to get a decent overclock it is hard to know for sure how high you will be able to overclock as each cpu is different. If you do raise your cpu core voltage keep it under 1.5V and keep an eye on temps. I would just stick to the cpu multiplier and core voltage for the moment. For more advanced settings you will need to do some research and read up on them. 4.5Ghz is a good target that you may or may not be able to hit, you will not know for sure till you try.

I tried increasing the multiplier and my system actually slowed down and the screen flickered a little even though the temperatures were fine... The ram speed was unbelievably still at 1866 when I checked a couple of minutes ago...

Are you using a stability testing program at all? I hear 60C is about as high as you want to get these chips. It might be a good idea to do a quick cpu benchmark with the multiplier at stock and then raise it too make sure you are getting better performance. Are you using the built in GPU on the CPU?

I would suggest using the demo version of AIDIA 64 and running the stability test to see if your cpu is throttling when it is overclocked. You need to do some sort of stability testing / benchmarking to make sure it is stable and not throttling and performance is increasing not decreasing.. So maybe run cinebench as well..
