Fairly new to the subject so when possible please keep it in layman's terms. I just installed a Samsung 250gb SSD and only want the operating system and a few games on it, while keeping the rest of my files on my existing HDD. what is the best way of doing so? I have tried using Samsung's data migration software but I'm unsure whether or not the operating system was copied and if so, I don't know how to tell the computer which to boot from.

Solution
Unplug the HDD. If the system boots up, it is booting from the SSD. If not, enter BIOS and (1) set the SSD as the first disk drive, and then (2) set the SSD in the boot order you want. I usually have my boot order set as optical drive first, then SSD next.

Motherboard? One way you can test is disconnect old hard drive and power on. see if it boots. Then plug back in other one if it is good, go into the boot menu, put SSD as first boot device.

Then format old hard drive, move your Users folders to D Drive or what ever drie letter the old hard drive now is. To move just open up your User folder, right click on Documents, then locations tab, change C to a D or what ever drive letter it is and then ok and then say yes to move existing files.
