Question regarding GPU output resolution on TV

Guys just a question, I do have a 1080p LED tv and I do have my PC connected to it thru aside from it's monitor which is connected thru DVI. I did notice that when I switch to HDMI it is only at 1600 x 900 resolution(as per the message from the TV). I would've wanted the resolution on the TV to be at 1080p, What can I do to get a 1080p output for my TV? By the way, I am using an MSI GTX 750 2GB.

Does your monitor perhaps run at 1600x900?
If so, do you then perhaps have your system set up to mirror the display on to the TV? If this is so, then use Extend rather to set the resolution on the tv independently from the monitor.

Yeah, that makes perfect sense, my TV is just mirrored to what my monitor is displaying and my main monitor is not 1080p. I'll try that extend function or stick with using my tv alone. Thank you very much.
