Okay to OC a reference r9 290?

I just recently grabbed a reference r9 290 for for around 160 w/ MIR and I'm wondering if they're okay to OC. I've read the reviews and read around that they run really hot. Since I don't have it yet I don't really know the average temp of it in my build, but I plan to have all fans on full when I play any games.

Here's the link to the card that I bought : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202043

I don't know much about OCing so I'd just like to know if it's safe to OC this particular GPU and at what temps would you consider it dangerous for the GPU. And on average, how much would you raise the clock speed on a GPU?

Thanks

Its safe if you can keep the temps down.
However, the reference cooler struggles to keep temps in acceptable ranges at stock speeds, resulting in throttling.
You can feel free to try, keep the temps under 80C, but I highly doubt you will get any meaningful OC out of it (or an OC at all)
