My external HD started doing something very strange yesterday. One folder (my media folder) stopped showing me my files and folders after the the letters BL. My last folder that shows is Blind Melon (it's a media folder). I cannot search for the items and folders, but they are still there -- they take up space on the hard drive, and if type in their address in the windows file location bar (e.g. f:/music/metallica ), the files are there and accessible, and play. Some of them are even seeding in bit torrent.

The other weird thing is that it was only my music folder that did this. It totals about 200GB worth of music, and it is all there according to the disk, and size of the root folder in the properties tab. Anyone know what I can do?

What if you browse to that folder though CMD? if you get to the main folder, hit DIR, does it show the C+ Letters?

Very weird issue going on here. Me I would make a new Parents Folder some where else, make new folders in it that are the ones hidden, and then move everything over. This is a very weird issue indeed. A issue I wish i could replicate and figure out
How old it is has nothing to do with hidden files, but what version of windows are you running?

I would take the parent folder of all you files right click on it and then go to properties. Then check the Hidden Box. Hit apply then stop the process of hiding the files. Then go back and uncheck the hidden box, hit apply again and let it go though its whole process. Might take a while depending on how many files there. Just see if that works. It just sounds like hidden files to me

So, if I place a non-hidden file (or folder) into the folder in question that begins with the letter C or later, it automatically disappears, but again, I can navigate to it directly. Same thing if I rename a current, non-hidden file I can see, it just poofs.

I cant click on the folders/files to move them, I can only open them/navigate to the sub folders if I type them in the location bar. Those sub folders which are not showing up do have files in them though, and I can move those files, and they work.
