While I was frustrated today, I did something stupid and plugged a 6-pin cable into my corsair 850watt power supply while the pc was running. It then clicked and powered off. I tried a different power supply without any luck.

Is the motherboard most likely to blame?

Solution
Test your psu.

Plug the power supply into the wall.

Get your 24pin connector that connects to the motherboard.

Connect the GREEN wire with the adjacent BLACK wire (ground) with a paperclip.

The power supply's fan should start up. If it doesn't then it's dead.

If the fan starts up, then it could be the motherboard that's dead.
