I got a new power supply and GPU and after going out to buy a DVI-A to VGA adapter, I plugged in my monitor into my GPU and there is only a black screen on the monitor with a white analog thing on the top left. The GPU's fan is still running but nothing appears on the monitor. HELP!

In other words, graphics cards nowadays only outpot digital signal, hence the DVI-D connector, they have no analog signal coming out, you bought an adapter, not a converter, and the end that plugs into the graphics card needs an analog signal.

You need to buy a different cable, like dvi-d to vga, hdmi to vga, or display port to vga, those will convert the signal and solve your problem.

OR just buy a digital monitor, can't stress this enough, it's 2015.

can be a few issues. if your rig is a few years old it can be a bios bug causing no video. see if with the gpu the onboard video port if you have one is working. if it is working see if you can change the primany display to peg/pci and see if the gpu turns on. also with the gpu make sure all the power plugs are filled if it has more then one. if it not the gpu it could be a weak power supply that cant output the voltages needed for the gpu. see if a friend has a unit you can use for testing. some older pc used nvidia chipset..if your mb is one of those you may have to use a nvidia gpu. also on some of the older hp and dell they had 512k video ram max limit. any card with a larger size would cause not post.

If this is true I will exchange my adapter for a dvi-d to vga, can someoen confirm this?

I doubt it's the PSU because I just installed a 650 W for the GPU

I'm not sure if my monitor is an analog honestly, it's a samsung monitor that's like 3 years and analog is showing when I connect my monitor to GPU

Sorry I posted to the wrong thread, so you have tried all the ports on your card and have no signal from any of them? Unless your motherboard has defaulted to onboard graphics it would appear that you have a broken card.

I don't think it's broken considering the fan still runs

Does your graphics card have an hdmi out? if it does, buy an hdmi cable, if it doesn't, either get a dvi-d to vga adapter, or a new monitor with dvi-d in
