Unable to connect to Hitachi 32' Smart TV

Hello,

I recently purchased a Hitachi 32' Smart TV Combi (32JYJ46U) and already had a wireless Netgear N300 modem router - and purchased the 'dedicated' Veezy 200 dongle to give me connectivity.

When I plugged in the dongle to the TV, it immediately recognised my device/network ('Netgear 96') and indicated a strong signal. However, when I put in my password (for the network/device) and press 'OK' - nothing happens. In the TV manual it says I need to make my modem "SSID visible" - which I'm pretty sure it is. That is, in the device settings both 'this wireless network' and 'SSID broadcast' are enabled.

Any idea what the problem could be?

Thanks,
DANNY

What you just said there is odd.

Normally only the WIFI server needs to broadcast its SSID, because he's providing access. Your client doesn't need to broadcast anything, he's just listening. In fact if client does, there would be a conflict.

Do something else. You want the SSID to be visible.

Don't rely on the TV to tell you the wifi strength. It is not really something it can reliably do. My first step when troubleshooting wifi is to temporarily move the router and the TV as close together as possible, so there is line of site between the router and the wifi dongle. Then temporarily turn off the encryption. Poor wifi is the most likely problem so this will eliminate it as a factor. If you get a connection, work backwards to reestablish the network you want..

Other things you can do is to set the router to another channel. Assign a channel rather than let the router pick its own. If using 2.5ghz, set the band width to 20, see if that works, then set it to 40 and see. Again, avoid the "auto" setting on the router. If the router supports multiple SSIDs, set one up just for the TV.

If your router supports 5ghz, try a dongle to connect on that band. Again under a unique SSID or the TV will likely just connect to the stronger apparent 2.4ghz rather than the faster 5ghz.

Thanks for reply. I set up a Guest Network with no security - and it connected! However, I still haven't got any internet connectivity, as I'm now getting the message: 'Error on page, no response - try again'.

Any more ideas?

It sounds like the TV has a reasonable signal, but TV's are notoriously fickle in accessing the internet. The next thing I would do is to set the TVs DNS lookup to use Google instead of the one assigned by the router. Google's DNS IP numbers are is 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. The settings are somewhere in the TVs setup routine.

Another thing is if the TV has an Ethernet jack, temporarily run a cable to the wired network while you work out the connection bugs.

You can also log into your router from a computer to see if it is assigning an IP to the TV. If not, then make sure the TV is set to get an IP from DHCP rather than a fixed IP.

Hi mate.

I have exact same issue. if I connect via cable it works fine. when I connect the veezy200 and connect to my wifi network. I put wpa2 passkey in. status changes to not connected instead of disabled. but it does not connect. this seems a fairly common problem but I cannot find a solution.

any update on your situation

Thanks
Alan

I managed to fix mine. I assumed that the cable that came in packaging with dongle was just an extension and never connected this part...just plugged dongle direct to TV.
In fact the extension is required and as soon as I connected it to TV my WiFi connected to TV in seconds. Dunno if this helps you

I HAVE A HITACHI 32INCH TV AND MY VEZZY 200 DETECTED MY NETWORK BUT WHEN I ENTERED MY PASSWORD IT WOULDNT CONNECT. I FOUND YOU MUST NOT PLUG THE VEZZY DIRECTLY TO YOUR TV EITHER PLUG IT INTO THE CRADLE THAT CAME WITH IT OR IF LIKE ME YOU DIDNT GET ONE THEN PLUG IN A USB EXTENSION LEAD TO YOUR TV THEN THE VEZZY INTO THE LEAD.IT WORKS I DONT KNOW WHY PERHAPS IF ITS PLUGGED DIRECTLY TO THE TV IT INTERFEARS WITH IT.BUT WITH THE LEAD IT CONNECTED AS SOON AS I ENTERED MY PASSWORD.
