so recently i have been wanting to clean install my windows cause i will be ugrading soon so i wanna sell my my comp now. once i reach the part where you pick which hard drive you wish to select its not loading/reading it. ive ran a disk check through windows and there was no errors. i took the hdd's out of raid (at least i hope) considering it says they are no longer in raid in raid bios. ive used the windows cp and under "list disk" its not showing any. i tjink ive tried just about everything i can think of and i really need help. thanks

Well if your main drive can't be formatted and its not showing up like its needs to.
Your best bet is to call western digital and ask for rma support, if you have no warrenty.
Its best you go ahead and purchase a new drive and go ahead and upgrade to windows 7.
If it were me in your shoes trying to sell a vista based computer, no one would want that nor would I put them through that ordeal...

Read the first link and be sure to assign a drive letter to it, if its not showing up in windows normal mode.
Read the second link and choose digital black and download the diagnostic tool and run it in dos mode.
Look at the third link, this would be perfect for windows7-10/linux OS
Once you run the tool and it gives out the results tell us what it says.
If its getting ready to die with bad sectors, it would be a good time to upgrade the drives before selling.

tried both still not showing up zero errors in the diagnostic tool. it dosent allow me to change the letter on the main drive (c:)

Ok then lets try to format and partition the drive, if we can get that going, then we go back to disk management and assign the drive letter.

http://www.partition-tool.com/download.htm
Use this to format and partition the drive, been using this since the old vista days.

its allowing me to reformat and partion drive [F:] (secondary drive) but not drive [C:] main drive (system, boot, file, active, crash dump, primary partion) 25mb where unallocated on both hds its allowing me to fix it on drive [F:] not my main drive.
