What is a pfsense router?

I was thinking of building a pf sense router but I didn't quite understand it. Will it work as a wireless router or is it just an Ethernet hub or something like that. I just want to know what exactly is this pf sense router and how can I use it

Thanks

I set up my pfsense router with an old Pentium 2.8GHz PC. I use the builtin motherboard Lan port for the (WAN input) from my cable modem. I use an old WIFI card installed in the old PC as my (LAN/WIFI). PfSense will reformat the hard drive of the old PC and will use very little CPU and RAM to give you a super router. My machine uses 1% CPU and 22% RAM with 1GB of RAM installed. The 10 devices I use on my network are all using the WIFI from the card in the old PC, and I have no gaming lag, or stuttering or buffering video streams. You can use a second LAN card if you need to plug into a switch/router for multiple wired connections. You can also install dual or quad port lan card(s) in the old PC if you want to connect multiple...

It has packages that can be installed to give you almost any function known to routing and firewalls.
I am never going back to consumer off the shelf routers. This is a much better option IMO. You will have to be patient with learning the interface and packages you need for your network. I hope this info has helped.
