Hey there, gperez.

If you're having issues with your drive and you still have access to it, I'd recommend that you backup any important data, which you might have on it and you can't afford to lose, just to be on the safe side.
As for your question, here's an article with a bunch of HDD diagnostic tools (both brand related and 3rd party ones) so you can have your pick: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/tp/tophddiag.htm. I'd recommend that you go for the one provided by the HDD manufacturer.

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.

I'm curious. Have you tried using Windows "Disk Check" utility? Just go to Start... Computer... and Right-Click on the drive and select Tools. That's usually the goto program for fixing disk errors.

Be very careful if you decide to use 3rd Party Hard Drive Utilities. Some websites that offer them usually have you first download and install one of their "download managers" to get the file... and then sometimes sneak in other bloatware/malware. And when you get the utility... the scan or checking is usually free but any repairs that are needed... you would be asked to pay.

Allow me to offer you an alternative. As someone previously pointed out, it would be best to get the free diagnostic/repair utility from the hard drive manufacturer itself. Now, if you do not know which company makes your hard drive... you can either open up your computer's side panel and look on top for the name/brand... OR.. you can easily go to Device Manager and look under Disk Drives. When you see the long name.. the first two or three letters will tell you the brand. For example, if it read WDCxxxxxxxxxx .. then you'll know it's a Western Digital... and if it reads STxxxxxxxxxx then you'll know you have a Seagate drive.
