Hi,
After getting some good advice here, I'm keeping my old i7 2600 cpu and going to get a new gpu (probably Gtx 970) and a new motherboard as old Hp one not compatible with newer gpus.

So. I'm looking for the "best" mobo with 1155 socket and z77 chipset.

Is there a clear choice for around £100?

Many thanks,

Flippy :)

I would guess by now theres not much to chose from ?? may find some old stock leftover boards at a retail shop or find something at e-bay?

don't know whats available where you arte but as you can see not much ??

then weed things down to a z77 ? slim pickings

https://pcpartpicker.com/parts/motherboard/#s=14&sort=a8&page=1&c=52
from that list I assume the asrock extreme 4 ??

Thanks junkeymonkey. Maybe I should reconsider the cpu upgrade then. I mean, I'm already needing a new mobo if I want a new gpu. Might as well get a current cpu too right? Thanks mate.

well that asrock if you can get it would be fine ? I don't know whats still offered where you live at ?? and what you mean by ''best'' ? best for what ?

if you don't have a ''K'' chip maybe a 'H'' board instead of a ''Z'' board would do ?

are you going to reuse the hp case ?? will you then need to stay with m-atx form factors??

when you say the best you leave things wide open to anyones personal preferences on what they feel is the best but then you may find its not the best for you in the end overall

just pick one that meets all your needs and go for it that supports your chip and hardware needs ..

Ah yes, sorry. My aim is to play fallout 4 and current games with lovely smooth frame rates and high graphics settings (as good or hopefully even better than ps4)

being you got a locked sandy chip I don't know what to say on that ? if you now think its 2 gen's back [ sandy- ive- haswell -haswell refersh- skylake ]

all that is now a judgment call on you - hard to say?

may look at something like this for a lot less cash [86 bucks ?? ] and run it and see where it takes you ?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157304

like said here at newegg there only 11 boards in stock ?

Hi junkeymonkey, thanks for your advice. I've decided to do the job properly and build a whole new machine. Seems like id get a better result if I get a current i5 and longer til the next upgrade. Might try a £500 build only keeping my ssd, blueray and 550w psu.

Thanks again mate. :)
