Will increasing the fan speed of the gpu prevent the gpu heatsink to get warmed up a lot?

First of all my gpu is: evga gtx 970 sc acx 2.0

So I recently started getting strange sound coming out of my gpu fans, and it only comes after around 30-60 minutes of gaming! And there are small pack of wires that connect the gpu fans with the gpu! And they are pretty close to the fans, so Im pretty sure where the noise is coming from. I think that the noise is coming, when the heatsink warms up a lot and expands a little, and because those wires a really close to the fans they start making contact with the fans and the noise is coming from there! That would explain why the noise only comes after the fans are spinning in gaming for about 30-60 minutes, because that is how much time it takes usually for the heatsink to warm up a lot! And I have an idea to fix that, by just increasing the fan speed to make sure the heatsink doesnt get that warm and expand! Because atm when I leave the fans at auto during gaming they dont go above 30-35% and keep the card at around 70C !

So I would like to know, if I increase the fan speed of the gpu, will that prevent the heatsink to warm up that much? Because if yes, maybe I can prevent it to expand that way and fix the problem!

Also here is the sound that the fans are making: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lYTOz8fV58

Please answer me, because I really really want to fix this problem, it worries me :D
Thank you very much :)

First thing I would do is download a stress test and stress the graphics card for about 30-40 minutes. When you start to hear the sound try to look into your case and confirm if it's actually the wires being pushed into contact with your spinning fans. I don't think a piece of metal would expand that much due to the heat to push wires into the fans but I suppose it is possible. EVGA has excellent customer service so assuming your warranty isn't up or void they would probably replace it no problem. But to answer your question yes adjusting the fans to spin faster cool the heat sink even more.

keeping the fans at full speed will of course keep the gpu cooler. it will heat up slower as well since the fan is not slowed down at lower temps. but in the end i have no idea if it will prevent the gpu from ever getting real hot. at full load, everything will get hot as is normal so this may not be the total solution to the problem. if you feel the wires are hitting the fan, then obviously tucking them down or taping them to something or whatever is need to keep them away from the fan is important.

not only is the noise an issue but eventually the insulation will wear away and start causing all kinds of other issues you don't want to deal with. if needed exchange the card with the warranty. evga has great service and will be happy to do what they can to fix the issue.

Guys guys, your getting me wrong! Not cables outside the gpu are hitting the fan ... that would be easy to fix haha ... its small pack of cables that are behind the fans! There is no way to get to them! They connect the gpu fans with the gpu itself! I cant see them while the fans are spinning guys!

Its not wires outside the gpu im talking about .. that would be easy to fix haha .. im talking about small pack of cables that are behind the gpu fans! I cant get to them, i cant slide my finger between the fan blades! I can only see them and they are pretty close to the fans! Also I cant see them while the fans are spinning!

i understood what wires you spoke of :)

with it turned off take a look at the wires and see if the insulation is marked. this will tell you if it is indeed the wires rubbing or not.

unfortunately to get to them you'll have to remove the fan from the card and reset the heatsink like on a cpu. you'll have to take it apart to do this. if still under warranty it'll be easier to return it for another one so you don't void the warranty taking it apart.

Oh yeah they'll replace it no problem then. Unfortunate this happened to such a new card but such is life! Good luck :]
