I'm trying to find myself a good build and it has been a while. Last time I've bought a PC was about 10 years(!) ago, it seemed much more simple back in the day. In case you were wondering what ancient components I've got, here are the basics:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+
3,00GB Single-Channel DDR2 @ 314MHz
1024MB ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series

In other news, Jennifer Aniston applied for a divorce from Brad Pitt...

Anyway, I have two builds. Haswell vS Skylake is the first question. There is not much of a difference in the price so I think Skylake should be a no brainer here, right?

Option 1 - Haswell Build cca 520 (575) €

CPU: i5 4460 - 180 € (i5 4690 - 212 €)
MBO: ASUS H97M E - 92 € (ASRock H97 PRO4 - 95 €)
RAM: 2 x 4GB DDR3 Kingston HyperX 1600 MHz - 66 €
SSD: Kingston HyperX Fury 240 GB - 95€
PSU: Corsair 500W CX 80+ Bronze - 67 € (Corsair 600W CX 80+ Bronze 84 €)
TOW: MS Ranger - 20 €

Option 1 - Skylake Build - cca 544 (602) €

CPU: i5 6400 - 185 € (i5 6600 - 225€ €)
MBO: ASROCK H170M Pro4 - 215 KM
RAM: 8GB DDR4 HyperX Fury 2133MHz - 66 €
SSD: Kingston HyperX Fury 240 GB - 95€
PSU: Corsair 500W CX 80+ Bronze - 67 € (Corsair 600W CX 80+ Bronze 84 €)
TOW: MS Ranger - 20 €

As you can see - there is not much difference regarding the price between the new and the old platform. This is the lowest price I could find around me, UK seems to offer much better deals.

The rest would go on a solid GPU (I would slightly prefer nVidia) and a solid Full HD display. Any suggestions?

Also:
1. I'm not into overclocking - it seems that I won't notice much of a difference in gaming. Is it OK to buy H motherboards and save some money instead of buying a Z type?
2. I assume i3 is out of the question if I worry about longevity, and i5 is the minimum?
3. There is not much difference between 6400 and 6600K (even 6700K) when it comes to gaming?
4. Is it better to buy a average GPU every 2-3years or buy a bit better (GTX 970) and not worry for 5-6 years. Oh, I'm not into high/ultra either.

How about some of these PSUs:

1. Corsair VS series VS550, 550W 85% efficiency (65 €)
2. Cooler Master B600 V2 600W (60 €)
3. 700W Cooler Master B Series 85+ (75€)
4. Fortron Raider S PSU 750W 80+ Silver (80€)
5. EVGA 600B 600W 80 PLUS Bronze (75 €)

I assume I could get a cheaper motherboard with some other chipsets, even some micro ones.

You think it is better to buy 960 and buy a new one in 2-3 years or go for a better one?
