So I'm looking at a new CPU to purchase. I currently have an AMD FX 8350 @ 4.0GHZ and am wanting to upgrade to a decent CPU that will fulfill my desires. I stream and game and I'm wondering if the Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 will be a decent CPU to get. I don't overclock, and I will have no desire to in the future. I've looked around at gaming performance and it looks like it will suit my needs but what I'm really wondering is if it will be a decent CPU to stream and game on at the same time (Streaming on one system). Please note that I understand I will need a new Motherboard if I get this CPU, alongside RAM that it supports. I'm using OBS to stream and my internet speed is not an issue either. I'm more focused on the encoding aspect of it and how it will do in that regard while under load from a game (Such as CSGO, Borderlands 2, and more modern games like Fallout 4 and Battlefront). If anyone has any other recommendations on other CPUs, I'm more than welcome to hear you out. :)

Thanks!

I have a Xeon 1231v3. It's an excellent choice. It games about the same as my former i5 4590, and computes about 40% better.

Is your FX8350 lagging ot have you noticed other problems? What is your GPU?

I tested OBS on my CPU for another member who wanted to know its performance and they were very satisfied with the results.

If you don't mind me asking, what settings did you use? I'm mainly interested in the encoder preset and the video settings.

Yeah that would be great if you could test for me. I stream at 3500 bitrate myself but that isn't what I'm looking at because that is internet based. I'm mainly looking at the encoder settings and the video settings. I myself stream at 720P (1080P Downscaled) 60FPS using the x264 encoder on the "Faster" Preset. If you could tell me how it holds up at these settings (and changing the preset to Fast and lower possibly [These can be found under the advanced tab in windows version of OBS. Not sure about muli-platform]) that would be absolutely amazing and you'd be saving me money if it isn't what I'm looking for. (I have high hopes for this CPU though so I hope it does what I need it to)

Alright, so thanks to some testing done by DO, I was able to figure out that the CPU was Perfect for my needs. It performs the way I want it to and I'll be picking it up soon. :)
