I bought this
http://www.amazon.com/KOMPUTERBAY-SODIMM-333Mhz-DDR333-PC2700/dp/B003CHANJG/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1448839461&sr=8-6&keywords=ddr+1gb+ram

I had asked on a previous thread if this ram was compatible and didn't get an answer so I just bought it :(

I have an inspiron 600m laptop. and this is dells ram for the laptop.

This was my original ram on the laptop hynix PC2700S-25330
256MB DDR 333MHz CL2.5
HYMD232M646D6-J KN

I put the ram in, it fits in, but not all the way so the clippings onthe side dont fit the little curve on the ram, and when i try turning it on, the laptop lock key just blinks.

Both of them had the same specs on the ram so I do not know why it doesnt work unless its faulty ram but how can I tell?

This is an oldlaptop that I thought I could bring backalive with upgraded ram. HOW DO I FIND COMPATIBLE RAM with this laptop???

This is the old original ram and the new one.

Laptop]http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/inspiron-600m/manuals]Laptop Product Support Page[/url]

From your laptop manual:

Minimum requirement 266 MHz
SODIMM 200pin connectors
Memory module capacities 128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, and 1 GB
Memory type 2.5 V DDR SDRAM PC2100 or PC2700, depending on your computer’s configuration
Standard memory 128 MB
Maximum memory 2 GB

It looks like the RAM you bought does fall within the supported specs above. Have you tried one stick at a time to see if you might have gotten a bad stick?

"I put the ram in, it fits in, but not all the way so the clippings onthe side dont fit the little curve on the ram," - This might be an issue. I suggest double checking the proper RAM...

I suggest double checking the proper RAM installation on page 81 & 82 of your motherboard manual first, if the RAM isn't fitting down all the way you might not have the correct connection.

If the RAM still doesn't work after re-seating properly it might be best to get the official Dell supported RAM, as at least you are sure it is compatible.

THANKYOU FOR ANSWERING!. REALLY. THANKYOU SO MUCH. And no, that SHOULD have been the first thing I do, but I just assumed I bought wrong rams. I had done it now, the other ram didnt have any problems with turning on the laptop, but it seems it doesnt recogize the 1gb ram.

Yes, there is one bad one(newram #1) , but i cant say the other one(newram#2) works since the laptop doesnt recognize it.

you know whatI guess I shouldnt even bother to see if it recognizes it, and just return in whole. But this was literally the only ram I was able to find on amazon that would be compatible

Edit: I am sorry, I am dumb, the 'working ram' only worked because I had my original ram in the other slot. I took it out so I can test the 'new ram#2' and laptop doesnt turn on. It lights up but doesnt nothing and turns off.

It certainly sounds like the RAM you bought isn't going to work out. :(

Honestly I think the best solution for an upgrade would be the officially supported Dell RAM. I know they are only 512MB modules instead of 1G, but it is still twice the capacity of the Hynx modules that originally came with the laptop and you can be confident they will work.

Dells $30,512mb ram is more than twice the price and half the size is definitely not worth buying. Theres no point of buying something so outrageously overpriced on outdated memory from Dell to upgrade a laptop. Thankyou for the response though.
