ive bought 2x8 1600mhz patriot ram and installed them correctly but when i go to my system properties, only 12gb is showing up! It should be 20gb with the 4gb of ram that was pre-installed.
Id also be happy to take out the stock ram and just use the 2x8 patriot ram BUT the monitor doesnt even turn on without the stock ram installed. Some friends say i need a new motherboard to hold that much memory, i dont know.
my mobo is a gigabyte holding a amd fx 8350

any help is appreciated!

If it's an AM3+ socket board I can almost guarantee it will hold your ram. It sounds like its stuck in some dual channel config, that's why only your 8 + 4 shows up. Why it doesn't turn on w/o stock ram I have no clue. Try to do it again w/o stock ram and make sure its in all the way...

Yeah, ram is allways the most pain-in-the-ass part. I had to ´THREE times re-install the ram hardware, then it finally worked. Just take it off and make sure verything is fine. Then put it back until it clicks.
