Hello,

Thank you for even clicking on this thread to read, I sincerely appreciate it. Thank you very much.

I am a PC newbie and need some help and advice on a Low Profile Graphics card.

I do NOT want to upgrade anything else

My PC name is: HP Compaq Pro 6300 Small Form Factor PC

Specs are:

CPU: i5-470 @3.20ghz
Intel HD Graphics 2500 - 32mb
RAM: 8gb
HDD: 500GB
MOBO: Manufacturer Hewlett-Packard Model 339A
BIOS Version K01 v02.83
Stock: PSU - I THINK it is 240watts

Could you please advice which Low profile graphics card will fit in my PC?
I want to play old games from 2000 to 2007, basic, causal

Budget is around £40

If you want more information of my specs, or images of hardware let me know. I really have no other clue.

Any old video card that will work with that power supply well will be slower than the onboard video card in the i5 CPU, or at least no faster.

Did you already try those games on the system as is? An R7 240 may work with your system but you'd have to get a used one for your budget.

Thank you for replying.

I am new to PC Hardware and don't know much.

My Current graphics card is integrated: and has only 32mb ram :(

I have tried going into the BIOS to see if I can boost it but no look :(

So I am a bit confused that you would recommend using on board.

No I have not actually tried any of the games, however someone told me "any graphics card is better than an integrated card"
Hence I am looking for a graphics card

Thank You

The "any graphics card is better than integrated" is not quite true, it really depends on the card. In your case it's mostly true but I suggest you install a few and see how they run. See if you can find an R7 240 in your price range, it should work on a 240 watt power supply although it's not the most reliable thing to do. Very good chance it runs with no issues though.

I see, I will try and instal some and let you know.

In the meantime, How about this card?

Would that card work?

Thank You

It's PCI-E. Good. Because you can't get AGP cards anymore today. The R7 240 give above is a good recommendation.

White slot = PCI slot. Used for network cards, sound cards etc.
Small black slots = PCI-E x1 slot. Used for the same as the white slot. PCI is an old standard, PCI-E is the new standard.
Large black slot = PCI-E x16, used specifically for graphics cards.

Thanks for that.

The R7 240 is slightly above my budget, how about this card?

What is the difference between the ^^^ link above and the R7 240?

Thanks

Okay, and one more question

If you have two separate 1gb graphics card.

How do you know which is better? What website do you use to compare them?

E.g for CPU I use CPU Benchmark which gives a nice overall score.

What do I use for graphics card?

this is a good start

610 is pretty slow, although for older games it may be OK to use. Issue with it may be that it's a fanless card which means you'd want good cooling in the case to draw out the heat from it, which a small form factor OEM system will not have. And the 619 is not much faster than the onboard video, maybe 25% faster. The 240 would be 300% faster if not more.
