AMD FX-8350 Can it really overclock this high?

It says that the AMD FX-8350 can overclock at 8.5GHz. Is that true and if it is what is the catch?

it may be possible but you can't just buy a new CPU fan or a commercial water cooling system thinking that will be able to keep it cool at a speed like that. ALSO what makes you think your system would be stable at that speed?

If you want to use it in a computer and play games or do anything useful, then you won't get over 5GHz

If you have a load of liquid nitrogen, a blowtorch, temperature probes and other specialist gear, then maybe you can get to that frequency, but not for long....

the record 8794.33MHz frequency was achieved by an FX-8350 chip with only two active cores (one dual-core Piledriver module).

Well, games generally use 4 threads or less...
And a single threaded task in an Intel processor is just over twice as fast as in an AMD CPU (using Super Pi as a benchmark)
So for gaming, an i5 at 4GHz should be similar to a FX8370 at 8.5GHz
