Video Card drawing too much power?? Help!

Got all my computer parts today, just put it all together and nothing. The fan spun for less than a second. Thinking my video card was drawing too much power I took it out and powered the computer up and vola!

My question is how in the world is it drawing too much power to start?

I got a:
EVGA GeForce GTX 750Ti
EVGA 500w 80+
MSI H81M-P33 Motherboard

Please help as its not much of a computer without a video card lol
All parts are new.

Just fried the mobo i think. used plastic standoffs to see if the mobo was possible grounding out on the case and BINGO worked perfectly so i turned it back off and installed one screw where i had it installed before to insure the motherboard wouldnt move and when i turned it on smoke came from the motherboard from a component. Don't know weather to be mad at myself or wanting to take it out on NCIX. I might get to use my computer christmas now that i got to mess around sending it back and waiting for a new one.
