So yeah, this morning I performed a BIOS Update on my GA-Z68AP-D3 (rev. 2.0) Motherboard from Version: (FD to UA9(UEFI BIOS) before I clean install windows 10 on my new ssd. Everything seemed okay as it booted into windows but then It installed a bunch of drivers to start of with which I thought was a bit odd? Then my PC just froze about 10 minutes later, still powering and still got a desktop screen just couldn't move my mouse and keyboard.

I've tried to reinstall my graphics card and drivers, also went into the bios and set everything back to "optimized default" but it's still freezing randomly. The only thing that looked odd to me in to bios is the "Sata mode" I'm not sure if it was on IDE mode before and have a feeling it might of been on "RAID" as I did check it recently about changing it to AHCI before installing windows 10 on the ssd.

The one thing I'm afraid of is resetting the bios back to factory settings because this motherboard doesn't support "intel Support Intel 3rd generation" without an actual bios update. I have a i7 3700k and back in 2012/13 when I built this pc I ended up having to take it to a pc repair shop to "resolve this issue" and it ended up being that my bios needed updated. I do have a bootable usb stick but I'm not wanting to get stuck on a black screen like what happened a few years ago not being able to do anything.

Would really appreciate the urgent response and what to do, my motherboard can be found here (rev 2.0) http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4015#bios

Regards

Jake

I had other model GA Z68 MB, I remember when I updated the BIOS, the PC will reset to default setting, the storage mode will be IDE (default). So you have to reset everything before you boot the PC after update the BIOS.

You may try use the " regedit" to change the storage mode back to AHCI or RAID in safe mode, also change the registry sub key "Start" value from 3 to 0 under:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci\ for microsoft ahci
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaStorA or iaStorV\ for intel ahci

Or may try reinstall the win10 again, make sure go into the BIOS reset the setting.

If you want you can try to back to the FD version BIOS, check the links for how to, keep in mind it may or...

Thanks for your reply and information! I somehow managed to clean install Windows 7 on the ssd without the PC crashing, (risky stuff I know haha) anyways afterwards my PC would crash like before so I done another bios update from the qflash option in the uefi bios from the same version (a9 to a9) put settings all back to default apart from changing ram to 1600 and sata mode ahci. So far after testing games and leaving the PC on for 6 hours it hasn't crashed so hopefully this somehow fixed it by just updating the bios to the same version but with uefi qflash instead of the older flash methods. Hope this helps anyone in the future with the exact same issue as me.

Thanks again for your reply really appreciate it!
