Hello,

I just received a Dell Precision Tower 5810 in the mail today. I got it all setup, but I ran into one problem.

It won't connect to the Internet.

Just to let you know, I have been using OS X, so windows is very new to me. I am using windows 7 professional 64bit. I am not use to this operating system at all.

I don't understand how to connect to the Internet. When I try the broadband connection, it gives me error 651. I also tried diagnostics, and it said I need to plug in an Ethernet cable? My computer came with integergated NIC, so I thought I wouldn't need any cables. My router can not be accessed either, it is in a utility room, so if I have to plug something into it, I can't do that.

When I go to check for connections, nothing shows up. No addresses or anything, it just is blank.

So, I don't know what to do. I've tried turning the router on and off, and that didn't work. I don't know what else to try. I've tried reading on error 651, but it hasn't been helping because I don't understand what to do because I am not used to windows 7. I also cannot download or really do anything because, well, I'm not connected to the Internet.

Thank you for reading,

Unless you ordered the Dell with an additional wireless network adapter, you can't connect to a wireless network. To use the integrated wired network adapter, you need to attach an ethernet cable into an appropriate router or switch in order to establish a connection.

Oh ok, thank you for your response. I did not order a network adapter unfourtunately. Can I use a USB network adapter? Are they any good? I think an adapter is my only option right now, as I can't use cables and connect to my router, and I can't buy another router either.

Thank you,
