Is my CPU holding my performance back?

Hey all. So I recently upgraded to a GTX 960 4Gigs from a GTX 550 Ti. There's a very noticeable improvement when gaming in 1920x1080. But I'm wondering if my CPU is holding me back? Here are my specs.

Intel Core i3 2120 @ 3.30GHz

8 GB of DDR3 RAM

Gigabyte H61M-S2PV (Socket 1155) Mobo

4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 (Gigabyte)

and a 600w power supply.

I'm not looking to upgrade right away as my budget was all used up for the new GPU and a new power supply to go with it.

If any of you have suggestions on what CPU I should get in the near future, then please reply below.

Thank you all in advance, and excuse any of my grammar mistakes (English is not my native language.) :)

It depends on the game, some games the i3 does just as well as the i5/i7 (pretty close anyway), other games if they're cpu intensive the game will struggle a bit. If and when you go to upgrade maybe look at something like an i5 3570 or i7 3770. Either of those should give you a nice improvement in cpu heavy games. Don't bother with the k series since you don't have an overclocking motherboard. With an i5/i7 you should be good for another gpu upgrade and be able to keep the system you've got longer.

Thanks for the reply! :)

Yeah I've noticed that games such as BF4 (which I'm currently playing a lot) have had a considerably high improvement in FPS, but not THAT good. From an unplayable 30-40 FPS max on Low to a steady 60 on High. This is out of combat, in combat it goes a lot lower so I usually play on Medium with no problems.

I also play in a very tight space as I have a small apartment and nowhere to put my PC, in fact, so small that I have almost no place to move my legs and my chair is also immobilized. So this makes me wonder if my CPU can start overheating at some point. I've had no problem with overheating during the summer, when it was absurdly hot in my apartment with no A/C.

What CPU temperature should I try to get to make sure it performs with optimally? I'm currently using Speccy to monitor the temperature of my hardware.
