Question about the GTX 980 Ti regarding core clock? Should it exceed boosted values without OC?

I have a EVGA GTX 980 ti SC+ gaming gpu (http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=06G-P4-4995-KR). I recently started monitoring my gpu using the GPU-Z program. I noticed that my core clock will reach 1350 mhz when being strongly used. The default boosted level says it will reach 1190 Mhz. I never overclocked the card using any program (i.e. precision or afterburner). I'm wondering why the gpu is running that high of a speed and if it is any risk to my gpu.

I appreciate the guidance! Thanks!

Modern Graphics Cards have protection circuitry to lower the speed and voltage should the temperature get too high, so no worries there.

Not sure about the 1350MHz reported though. I'm checking though again not a cause for concern. I've noted speeds reported higher than expected before so it may be the reporting software is in error or something else.
