ASUS GTX 970 Strix won't fit in case- standoffs too short?

Having a problem installing my card. If the backplate is held flush to the case at the screwholes (90 degree angle) there is a gap of maybe 2mm between the GPU connectors and the mobo slots. If It is pushed in, the long connector will seat but the shorter end towards the rear of the case will not; the back plate also sticks up a bit and there is a slight downhill angle from the rear of the case to the front.

I/O connectors line up perfectly with the shield. If I get longer standoffs, they no longer will. PC Part Picker says this case should be fine (Thermaltake Core V71). The weirdest thing is that this is happening when installing in a full tower, however it fits perfectly in my older mid-tower.

Here are some pictures.

This is with the backplate flush against the case:

This is if I set the long portion of the connector. I can't get my camera low enough to show the angle, but it runs slightly downhill from rear to front when look at it from the side. The backplate is now sticking up a bit and the small portion of the connector doesn't seat.

Thoughts?

If the rear plate is bottoming on the case itself, taller standoffs would help, but I don't know if you would run into issues with your IO plate lining up. Did you try loosening the motherboard mounting screws and installing the card then retightening the screws?

Yeah, the rear plate of the GPU fits as it should, but that gives the 1-2mm gap. The screws themselves are too short for loosening to make a difference.

How much dust will be sucked into the rig if I just go without the I/O shield?

Not sure. It's the default setup on the Thermaltake Core V71

well I guess I had to be super lucky to stumble back across it ..

thing is all card should be a universal fit as a standard [why would they make a case to sell that a vid card don't fit correctly ? I guess they could of put the wrong size standoffs in the box but then like the I/o sheld and all would not line up correctly as well ?

then you would think lots of folks would complain about there cards not fitting ?
