Hello,

I just bought a new network card this one.

I installed it on my GB H77M-D3H motherboard in PCIEX4 slot because my PCIEX1 slot is covered by the video card.

My windows 7 recognized the network card and installed its drivers. When I looked in device manager it said Realtek rtl8168c(p)/8111c(p) family pci-e gigabit ethernet nic (ndis 6.20).

Still I don't have internet connection cause my Local Area Connection is Unidentified Network

Yes, by the way.. A few hours ago the internet worked... All I did was to push a little harder the network card into the pciex4 slot.. When I came back 1 hour later it has stopped working and was saying that the cable is not plugged in. Now I managed to push the network card again I dont know how and its working...

1. Could it be because it is a bigger slot?
2. How should I keep it there stronger so it doesn't move bty itself and stop again?
3. When I installed drivers from realtek the NIC changed its name to Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller or something like this. Is it wrong?

EDIT: 1 hour later: Right now it stopped again without me touching nothing. And it says the cable is unplugged and now the device has dissapeared from Device Manager... What should I do?

EDIT 2: So now I installed the NIC on my second computer in PCI-e X1 slot and its working just fine. My conclusion is that maybe it's not working well with PCI-e X4 slot on my first computer.. What should I do then.. Because on GA H77M D3H I don't have any free slots for NIC (My onboard lan burned in a storm, as well as I'm using in the PCI slot a Creative Sound Card 5.1 VX because the mobo doesn't have 5.1.)

Is there a way to fix and make the PCI-e X1 RTL8111 NIC work on PCI-e X4 because there is something wrong happening....

Hi, I am sorry to say that you should have done some research before getting the external NIC. I only had a quick look at your motherboard. But the way it was designed, you don't have much choice. Check your motherboard manual again. Since you have populated your PCI-E3 slot, it will change the behaviour of PCI-E4 slot. When I chose my current motherboard, I did take this into consideration and I gave up on an external sound card due to my preference for SLi setup. Mind you, you can get an USB external sound card / module now instead of using a PCi-E sound card. So, perhpas, this is your solution. Get rid of you PCiE sound card. Use that slot for the Network card. Good luck.
