Hello guys,

I've just bought a Samsung Pro 64GB micro SDXC memory card from my well tried computer webshop (located in Hungary). The box says model type is: MB-MG64E (this is the model type of the Class 10 UHS-1 U3 card). The top of the card (painting) confirms the same. However, by checking the back side of the card, the model type is MB-MG64D (this pointing to a Class 10 UHS-1 U1).

What do you think, which side of the card is genuine, is it any?

I've taken some photos and uploaded to:

Looks legit to me but when I checked on the samsung site, the "D"version pointed to the U1 version and the "E"version took me to the U3. The U1 one is $44 on the samsung site and the U3 one is only $20. I doubt anyone would go through the trouble of altering the paint to match a cheaper version and then go through the trouble of repackaging. If you have any major concerns, just contact samsung about the issue. They may be able to shed some light on it.

Thanks, after I realized the difference I called Samsung helpdesk immediately, however they are not able to help through phone, thus asked me to send them the details and photos in e-mail. I just hope to receive the answer back soon, as this card would be a gift for Xmas... About the price, as U3 is the new generation with more speed (constant 30 MB/sec write speed at least, compared with U1 10 MB/s), thus U3 should be around the same price as U1 (as the old one is probably not being produced anyomore). My card was 55$ (or ₤37).

Thank you. I'll do the tests on a notebook with USB3. I'm not sure if I can find out based on the test if this is an U1 or U3 type card. Should not be too much difference on the results, but U3 is more able to produce high write speed (30 MB/s) constantly. I just want to make sure not giving a fake card as a gift. To be honest I would be suprised if Samsung could do such a big mistake, by creating a wrong paint or model/serial number on a SD card.

Found a photo about the U1 one card here (almost exactly the same characters on it as on mine [U3])

I'm just thinking about what if Samsung has found a way to sell their U1 (old) cards had already produced, but still in the factory, and repaint those as the serial already recorded on them. And put them to the U3 generation (new) box, as the painted side is looking out of the box, so the customer could only realize the model type if he/she opens the box, like me.
