I have an HP 500-123w. Ive done some upgrades (better gpu, more ram, new psu), but i havent upgraded the processor. It currently has an intel i3 duel core w hyperthreading. I would like a quad core. What are my options? .

Before buying a new processor, check for compatibility for that chip because with OEM motherboards, there are numerous restrictions on what you can have in that socket and what you cannot.

Assuming that you still have the OEM motherboard, it will probably not support overclocking so there is no need for purchasing an unlocked chip.

You have a few options as to which chips you can choose; you can choose from a range of Ivy Bridge/Sandy Bridge i7/i5 chips. If you mainly game on that system, an i5-3470 would be enough to do all the heavy-lifting.
